Medieval Times

Been having some fun with medieval figures of late; I’ve been working on a couple of projects for customers, and as a result I get to work on my long stalled medieval project too!

The first big batch of figures I’ve been working on are casting T-21. As we all know many of the Scruby figures are a rather flattened and static pose. Well, in this case the customer wanted to use this figure, but did not want all 50 plus figures to be in the exact same pose. So After casting and cleaning the figures I sat down an individually posed about 100 figures. Posing the figures is quite easy. Most of the time you can just bend the arms into different poses; other times, just clip a foot from the base and bend the legs a bit – to get a bit more action into the pose. Other times, I combined the two to make a more dynamic pose. The other thing that is easy to do it clip the shield a bit and then use some putty – Green Stuff, or ProCreate to make a new, uniquely shaped shield. One could also fiddle with headgear, but I didn’t do that for this figure, but perhaps for T-22, which is next up on my hit list.

While we have a limited number of poses available, there are an almost unlimited number of variations you can add to the figures to make a unique army, using just a few basic figures. For these projects the figures will be going off to the painters (no way I can paint several hundred figures in any reasonable period of time), but I will be sure to photograph the results when they come back, before sending the finish goods off to their new homes.

Another benefit of this project is a new special for February (but you can order now)
The “Big Bin of Vikings” – $75.00 (shipping weight ~2 pounds)
You might be asking yourself “what do I get for the $75.00?”…
Well, you will get a minimum of 100 figures, a random selection of:

Viking, standing with spear 1601
Viking, standing with sword 1602
Viking, standing with axe 1606
Gaul, with spear and cloak 1603
Gaul, with boar head banner 1605
Gaul Warrior with Spear and Shield 1604

So, one might call this the “Big Bin of Vikings/Gauls, but hey, the figures all work well as Vikings, so we just shorten it to “Big Bin of Vikings”.

So why not take advantage of my temporary insanity? I got a bit carried away casting these figures, so I have a bunch of these figures in bins just waiting to be painted sent into battle.

Should you want a “Big Bin of Painted Vikings”, let us know we should be able to get that for around $300.00 plus shipping (free shipping not variable for this offer).

For my batch of figures, we plan to use them as individually based figures with the old Chainmail rules from Lowry Enterprises (later TSR). This will be Liam’s first wargame with something other than his own rules (5 year olds have funny ideas about how games should be played).

Oh, and one last note: We do plan on remolding the entire medieval range, so look for more package deals…

Several Scruby Ranges to go on Hiatus…

As most of you know, many of the molds for the Scruby line of miniatures are aging, and not gracefully.
As a result, in 2007, we are rotating several of the ranges out of production. Don’t worry, you can still order any of the ranges that are on hiatus, it will just take longer to fill your orders. Over time we will re-mold the on hiatus ranges and return them to full production status, but please be patient, as this project will take both time and money to complete.

So, on to the list of ranges to be placed on hiatus:
15mm ACW (actually a Chris Munro creation and will be going on the auction block in April)
20mm WWII
25mm WWII
25mm Medieval
25mm Napoleonic
1″ Thirty Years War

All of these ranges will go on hiatus starting 1 April 2007 – after April 1 2007, should you wish to order any figures for these lines, the delivery time will be in the range of from 6 to 8 weeks. Figure listings will be available upon request.

And now for a bit of good news – Two ranges will return to production in 2007. These will be:
20mm Napoleonic (will return in stages starting in the spring. If you happen to have a wish list, please pass it along it will help in setting priorities).
25mm ACW – We might update the range before it is re-released – this project is on my workbench right now and a decision concerning a reworking will be made by the end of the month.

More news later…

The end [of the year] is near…

Here we are 28 December 2006, another year nearly in the bag and barking at the dawn of a new year. The new year will bring some changes to HistoriFigs. Most will be for the better, and a few may make so of you a bit sad…

To start with we will be picking up the pace for production – the goal is to shorten order processing time which will result in faster delivery of figures. Starting in January, we will confirm each order as it is received (better feedback for you the customer). The confirmation, will include an estimated shipping date.

Now, for the sad parts, Several of the Scruby ranges will go on hiatus. A listing will be posted in January and we will give you all a couple of months to get orders in. These figures will still be orderable, but the processing times may be up to 12 weeks. The molds for many figures are just to old and require too much work to provide quality castings, and need to be replaced. As the molds are replaced, the ranges will return to production. However, it may take quite some time to make new molds for everything – thus ends the sad news…

We have started production in the new workshop, the space isn’t finished yet, but it is workable. Last night I picked up the ducting for the new ventilation system, and the work on that should be completed today (I may need to go back and supercharge the system, but it should be functional by tonight). After that I’ll need to move the remaining construction supplies to the old workshop and then I can construct the remaining workbenches and mold storage racks. Alison will be painting the office and game room this weekend and the carpet will be installed next week, so the new office/shipping room will be functional in another week or two.

This weekend, I’ll be updating the main website and adding new specials for January and who knows I might have another surprise or two in store – or maybe not, we shall see what I can pull together by the 1st!
