Distractions…

June 12th 2007

One of the problems with running a miniatures company is that it is far too easy to be distracted by your customers’ projects. Another thing that causes distractions for me is discovering some lost treasure from our war gaming past.

My latest distraction is sailing ships. I thought I had all I need when we completed the 24 Hour Fleet project. Well, I guess I was wrong about that! I’ve been eyeing some older sailing ships that Scruby produced before he began producing the ones in current production. I don’t know the history behind these models, but I do like them, so I figured why not build a new fleet using these older ship models? Since I already had a few ships from Jack’s fleet I had a start. After searching through my boxes of masters and patterns I found patterns/masters for the three ships in the range. So, now I was all set, just needed time and mold space. A few weeks back I had a project that I thought was ready for molds, but when I sat down to make the mold, I found some problems with the patterns that I had missed in the first pass review, and the problems were just big enough that it would take several hours to correct (Or maybe even cast new patterns), so since I had things all set to make a mold I pulled out the ship patterns and set out to make a production mold…

Jumping ahead a few days…

Time to cast ships! I’ve now cast a few dozen ships and have started painting them for my war games.

Sailing Ships

As you can see from the pictures, the ships models are not up to modern standards for style, etc. but they are still nice little models. I think the thing I like the most is that I can paint as little or as much detail as I want.

The pictures show ships from Jack’s collection as well as a ship or two that I’ve recently painted (I’m trying to match the existing ships in style). In the background you will see a pile of unpainted ships.

Operation Hoof Mold Part Two

June 11th 2007

We have been busy with our 30mm Cavalry remold project and have a status updated for you.

  • First, the list of figures has been updated to include a few I left off the last list.
  • Next, I’ve updated the list to show which figures have been re-molded (The project actually got a start before we committed to a full re-mold of All Cavalry figures).
  • Lastly, I’ve started to record the type of casting each of these figures is. By type I mean one or two piece castings (it is possible that some will be three pieces, these would be older, and now reintroduced castings).

Since Google has this nifty way of publishing spreadsheets, I thought we would give it a try and see how it works – to see an updated listing (a work in progress) check the following link:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p0O1LPQghdIPPdrb0zKs7IQ

The rows shaded in blue indicated which figures have been remolded.

Additionally, we have done a quick, simple calculation to determine when we have sold enough figures to ‘break even’ on this project. Taking the whole project into consideration, we have determined that if we sell 24 of each casting we will break even.
Not too bad, I’d say. What better time to add a squadron or two to you favorite Napoleonic army!

June Specials…

June 8th 2007

Well, I promised to post new specials this week, so here they are:

As part of the Kamehameha Day celebration, let’s do 11% off all things Hawaiian!

Check back on Monday for additional Kamehameha Day specials.

We missed the actual (63rd) anniversary of D-Day, but we still have a D-Day themed special –> 6.3% off all Bloodaxe WWII figures (OK, 6.3% so an odd discount, so lets just round up to 7%).

Next, I’d like to reminder (or point out to) you about a super discount on 30mm Napoleonic Cavalry. Pre-order figures (cast in new production molds) for $2.50 (a $1.25 discount)… See the news story below for figure listing and additional details.

Well, that wraps up the June Specials.

Operation Hoof Mold…

June 6th 2007

OK, so it was a silly title – but it does sound more interesting than: 30mm Napoleonic Cavalry…

I’ve been fighting the 30mm Napoleonic cavalry molds for a good 4 years now, and I’ve finally decided it was time to correct the situation!

I’ve decided to replace all of the molds used for the casting of 30mm Napoleonic cavalry. This won’t be a small project, but it needs to be done, so we will be biting the bit, and getting it done.

A quick look tells us that there are 45 catalog entries for 30mm Napoleonic cavalry. We do know that some of these are duplicate catalog numbers or that multiple casting numbers are really the same figure (never could figure out Jacks method for numbering his models), so our actual count of individual models will be something less than 45. In addition to the models listed in the current figure listings, there is some number of unlisted models – I’ll work to add as many of these unlisted models to the production molds as I can…

We’ll do our part – making new molds, so we can supply you with higher quality castings in a more time efficient manner. Now, here is where you can help: To (help) finance this project we will be offering ALL 30mm Napoleonic Cavalry castings at a special ‘pre-order’ discount price of $2.50 each – that is a discount of $1.25 (based on current pricing for 30mm Cavalry castings). Discount price will remain in effect until all currently listed castings have been remolded

Note: Should it be determined that a specific casting cannot be remolded the casting will be removed from production until such time that it can be remolded. This removal will also remove the casting from the pre-order listing (refunds will be issued as required).

We will ship the pre-orders as quickly as we can, but you should allow at least 2 weeks for mold making and production.

Presented below is a listing of the currently offered 30mm Napoleonic cavalry castings. Should you wish to pre-order any of these castings drop us a line (sales@historifigs.com) and let us know. Pre-ordered castings will receive priority in the re-molding process…
